Delhi witnessed another spell of heavy rain on Thursday morning as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an Orange Alert for the national capital. Rain was reported from areas including New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka, and nearby localities, resulting in waterlogging at multiple locations. The rainfall brought relief from the recent hot and humid weather but also affected the morning commute. Amid the wet weather, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has issued a passenger advisory, asking travellers to leave early for the airport due to traffic delays caused by waterlogging.
Delhi Airport Issues Passenger Advisory
Amid the ongoing rainfall, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) issued a passenger advisory on its official X account. The airport said traffic on roads leading to and around the airport could move slower than usual because of waterlogging. Passengers have been advised to leave for the airport earlier than planned and consider using the Delhi Metro to avoid delays.

At the time of writing, no official flight delay or cancellation advisory has been issued by Delhi Airport. Passengers are advised to check the latest flight status directly with their respective airlines before travelling to the airport.
What Is The Weather Forecast?
The IMD said Delhi is likely to remain cloudy throughout the day with thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph at isolated places. The maximum temperature is expected to remain between 28°C and 30°C, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 24.3°C. Satellite images indicate that heavy to very heavy rainfall could continue over the next 24 hours, with the most intense spells expected during the next 12 hours. Eastern parts of NCR, including Noida, Ghaziabad, North Delhi and East Delhi, are likely to receive the heaviest rainfall. Other areas such as Central Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, Gurugram and Faridabad may also witness heavy showers.
The weather department has warned that continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging, traffic jams, closure of underpasses and disruption to road and air transport. It also cautioned residents about possible electrocution from damaged power lines, damage to vehicles in flooded areas and the risk of landslides in vulnerable locations.
Safety Advisory For Residents
The IMD has advised people to check traffic conditions before travelling and avoid waterlogged roads. Residents have also been asked to stay away from electric poles, overhead power lines and avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms. Where necessary, electrical and electronic appliances should be unplugged as a precaution.
