Will Vijay ‘Thalapathy’ Take Oath as Tamil Nadu CM Tomorrow (May 7)? TVK Falls Short of Majority Mark, Who Can Be Last-Minute Allies

Vijay may take oath as Tamil Nadu CM on May 7 if TVK secures majority support. Congress backing alone may not be enough; alliances and AIADMK split could be key.

Tamil Nadu is on the edge of a major political moment as all attention turns to whether Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy, will take oath as Chief Minister on May 7. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has delivered a breakthrough performance in the Assembly elections, disrupting the state’s traditional political balance.

However, despite the strong mandate, the key question remains unresolved: does Vijay have the numbers to take the oath immediately, or will political negotiations delay the process? The answer lies in fast-moving alliance talks, the Governor’s decision, and whether TVK can cross the crucial majority mark in time.

Will Vijay Thalapathy Take Oath as Tamil Nadu CM Tomorrow (May 7)?

As of now, Vijay’s oath-taking on May 7 is possible but not fully confirmed. The final decision depends on whether he can show majority support to the Governor before the swearing-in.

If TVK submits letters of support from allies or independent MLAs and proves it has the required numbers, the Governor can invite Vijay to form the government immediately. In that scenario, a May 7 oath ceremony is very likely.

However, if the numbers are still uncertain or negotiations remain incomplete, the oath-taking could be delayed by a few days. So, while preparations may be underway, everything hinges on the last-minute political arithmetic.

Why Vijay Thalapathy is Likely to Take Oath Tomorrow?

There are several reasons why Vijay is still seen as the frontrunner for a May 7 oath-taking:

  • TVK has emerged as one of the largest parties in the election
  • There is strong public momentum and political pressure to form the government quickly
  • Early signs suggest support from smaller parties and independents
  • Fast-paced negotiations indicate that numbers could be secured in time

In Indian politics, when a party comes close to a majority, the Governor often gives it the first opportunity to form the government. This puts Vijay in a strong position—provided he can show even a narrow majority.

TVK Got a Big Win but Not a Majority

Despite its impressive performance, TVK has not crossed the majority mark on its own, which complicates the situation. This means Vijay cannot automatically take oath without proving support.

The gap may not be very large, but even a small shortfall matters in government formation. Without the required numbers, the Governor cannot constitutionally allow a party to form the government.

This is why post-poll alliances and support letters have now become the deciding factor.

TVK Alliance with Congress

There is growing speculation around support from the Indian National Congress, but its numbers alone may not be enough to push Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) past the majority mark. With Congress reportedly holding only a handful of seats, Vijay will still need backing from other parties or independent MLAs to form the government.

At the same time, political developments within the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) could play a crucial role. Any internal split or support from a faction may significantly alter the numbers. In such a scenario, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could emerge as a strategic player, potentially facilitating indirect support for TVK.

If Congress support combines with backing from independents, smaller parties, or a breakaway AIADMK faction, Vijay’s chances of reaching the majority mark improve significantly. However, until these numbers are formally secured, the path to forming the government remains uncertain.

What is the Majority Mark for TVK?

In the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the majority mark stands at 118 seats out of 234. To form the government, Vijay must either:

  • Reach 118 seats on his own, or
  • Show support from other MLAs to cross this number

This figure is the single most important factor in deciding whether the oath-taking happens immediately.

How Many Seats Did TVK Have?

TVK has secured a strong seat count but remains below the majority mark. While the exact number places it in a dominant position, it still needs additional support to form the government.

This means Vijay’s oath depends not just on election results, but on how quickly he can gather extra numbers through alliances or independent backing.

What Did the Governor Say?

The Governor’s role is crucial in this situation. Typically, the Governor invites:

  • The leader of the largest party, or
  • The leader of a coalition that proves majority support

Once invited, the leader must prove a majority on the floor of the House within a set timeframe.

If Vijay presents enough support letters, the Governor can invite him immediately, making a May 7 oath-taking very likely. Otherwise, the Governor may wait or explore other options.

Can a Minority Government be Formed?

Yes, Vijay can still take the oath even without a full majority by forming a minority government, provided he has external support. In such cases:

  • He takes the oath first
  • Then the majority proves later during a floor test

This route is often used when numbers are close. However, it carries risks, as the government depends on continued outside support. Still, it remains a real possibility for May 7.

What if TVK Did Not Achieve the Majority Mark?

If TVK fails to secure enough support, several scenarios could unfold:

  • Another alliance could attempt to form the government
  • Political negotiations may continue, delaying the oath
  • In extreme cases, the state could face constitutional uncertainty

This is why the next few hours are critical. Without majority backing, Vijay’s oath-taking could be postponed.

Who Will Be the CM of Tamil Nadu?

At this moment, Vijay remains the strongest contender for Chief Minister. However, the outcome depends entirely on numbers. If he secures majority support in time, he is likely to take the oath on May 7

If support is delayed, Oath-taking may be postponed. In short, Vijay is closest to becoming CM—but the final call will be decided within hours, not days.
