Vellore:Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of orchestrating the murder of her husband, businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, during their honeymoon trip in Meghalaya, has filed a bail petition.

The petition is listed for hearing on September 17 before the judicial magistrate first class of Sohra sub-division.
The prosecution, represented by Additional Public Prosecutor Tushar Chandra, confirmed that the petition was filed on Friday, but requested additional time to review the case files before responding.

Claims Of Flaws In The Charge Sheet

Sonam’s legal counsel argued that the charge sheet filed against her contains “flaws” and inconsistencies. The charge sheet, which spans 790 pages, was submitted last week by the Meghalaya police and names Sonam, her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, and the three hired hitmen – Vishal Singh Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi – as accused in the murder case.
The counsel’s argument seeks to challenge the strength of the evidence presented, although prosecutors are expected to counter these claims after completing their review.

Details Of The Crime

Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman, was brutally murdered while on his honeymoon trip to Meghalaya. He was lured to a remote parking area near Weisawdong in Sohra, where three hired assailants carried out the attack.
Investigations revealed that the murder was allegedly pre-planned by Sonam and her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha. The motive reportedly stemmed from a strained relationship, and the couple’s illicit affair, which investigators believe played a central role in orchestrating the killing.
The crime came to light after both Sonam and Raja went missing from Meghalaya in May. The case triggered a nationwide search operation involving multiple states. Raja’s body was eventually recovered, while Sonam surrendered to the police in Uttar Pradesh shortly after investigators arrested the other accused.
The police have been actively pursuing all angles of the case, with forensic evidence, phone records, and witness testimonies contributing to the ongoing investigation.
