Transnational conspiracy case: NIA opposes bail plea of M. Anand Singh

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has opposed the bail plea of a man accused of involvement in a transnational conspiracy related to the Manipur violence.
The agency submitted its case before Additional Sessions Judge Sachin Gupta, asserting that the accused, Moirangthem Anand Singh, had connections with proscribed organizations and was apprehended with advanced weaponry and ammunition, along with his associates, in an area affected by the ongoing conflict.
According to the NIA, the accused played a role in a transnational conspiracy orchestrated by the leadership of terror organizations based in Myanmar, which are actively operating in the northeastern states of India. This conspiracy aimed to exploit the existing ethnic unrest in Manipur to wage war against the Government of India and carry out terrorist attacks, thereby intensifying the current situation.
The agency argued that releasing the accused on bail would pose a hindrance to the ongoing investigation. Given the accused’s history, there is a significant likelihood that he may engage in similar activities, further exacerbating the security situation in the state. The court is scheduled to hear arguments on the bail application on November 8.
The accused was arrested and subsequently brought to New Delhi on September 23. He is currently in judicial custody. The ethnic violence in Manipur, which began on May 3, has resulted in the deaths of more than 200 people and injuries to several hundred others.
