Maharashtra Civic Body Election 2026 Result Live Updates: Vote Counting for Maharashtra’s high-stakes elections will begin at 10 AM today, with results expected throughout the day for 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai’s BMC. The outcome is set to shape urban governance across the state and influence Maharashtra’s political trajectory ahead of key elections.
Polling for 2,869 seats across 893 wards took place on January 15, and counting centres are preparing for early trends as tight security remains in place across Maharashtra.
All eyes will remain on the BMC, India’s richest civic body, where the results are expected to trigger major political realignments. Other corporations where counting will be closely tracked include Pune, Thane, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayandar, Navi Mumbai and Ulhasnagar.
These urban centres are likely to act as bellwethers for future state and national contests.
The elections have drawn attention due to shifting alliances and revived partnerships. The Thackeray cousins, Uddhav and Raj, are contesting together after ending their long rivalry last year. Today’s results will test the strength of their renewed political understanding.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar is contesting alongside Sharad Pawar’s NCP faction in key corporations such as Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, adding another layer of competition.
Voting was held from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM on January 15. While final turnout figures are awaited, State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare has said turnout is likely to remain in the 46–50 per cent range across the 29 civic bodies.
By 3:30 PM on polling day, Kolhapur recorded the highest turnout at 50.85 per cent, followed by Parbhani, Thane, Vasai-Virar and Panvel. Mumbai’s voter turnout stood at around 41 per cent.
As counting gets underway, allegations related to the use of marker pens or erasable ink are expected to remain part of the political narrative. Several voters had claimed the ink could be wiped off using hand sanitisers.
Reacting to the issue, Uddhav Thackeray said, “Perhaps this is the first election where so many complaints are coming in that the ink applied is coming off immediately. There is collusion between the Election Commission and the ruling party. Many irregularities are happening.”
Exit polls have projected an advantage for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in the BMC elections. The BJP–Shiv Sena alliance is likely to win between 131 and 151 seats.
The Shiv Sena (UBT)–MNS–NCP (SP) alliance is projected to secure 58–68 seats, while the Congress–VBA–RSP alliance may win 12–16 seats. Another survey by JVC has predicted the BJP-led alliance to cross 138 seats.
