Myanmar Elections 2025 LIVE Updates: Several conflict-hit regions will see only partial voting due to active resistance and continued clashes. In Kachin State, elections will be conducted in just six of the 18 townships, including the capital, Myitkyina. Heavy fighting continues in areas such as Bhamo, Hpakant, and Waingmaw, where the Kachin Independence Army remains engaged with junta forces. Reports indicate clashes near Myitkyina’s airbase only days before polling. Over the past year, resistance forces have captured 13 towns across the state.
In Karenni (Kayah) State, voting will be held in only two townships. Karen State will see polls in three townships, while five townships in Mon State are included in the first phase. In Chin State, where resistance groups control most areas, only the capital, Hakha, and one other township are scheduled to vote. Even there, junta positions came under attack just 48 hours before the election.
Rakhine State will see voting in just three townships, as the Arakan Army controls most of the region. In northern Shan State, elections are planned in Muse, Nawnghkio, and Lashio, despite intense fighting over the past two years. Overall, 12 townships across Shan State will take part.
In the Yangon Region, polling is scheduled in 12 townships, the same number as in Sagaing. Magwe Region will vote in nine townships, even as recent clashes between resistance groups and the military continue in several areas marked for polling. Elections will also be held in eight townships, each in Naypyitaw, Mandalay, Bago, and Ayeyarwady regions, while four townships in Tanintharyi Region are included.

Myanmar Elections 2025 LIVE Updates: Myanmar’s ruling military council has confirmed that voting for its long-delayed election will begin on December 28, nearly five years after the armed forces seized power. The junta has planned the polls in three separate stages, spread across different parts of the country.
According to the announcement, the first phase will cover 102 townships on Sunday. The second round will take place on January 11 in 100 townships, followed by the final phase on January 25 across 63 townships.
However, the election will not take place nationwide. Authorities have excluded 56 townships where the military does not hold effective control. No clarity has been provided on voting plans for another nine townships, leaving large sections of the population without a chance to participate.
