New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to announce its new national team within the next 48 to 72 hours following a series of meetings among the party’s top leadership over the past few days, The Sunday Guardian has learned.
According to sources, discussions involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Nabin and BJP national general secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh have concluded, with the names for the new organisational team understood to have been finalised.
Sources indicated that no major development is expected to delay the announcement, which has been awaited for nearly 50 days.
Sources further said that the much-speculated Union Cabinet reshuffle has been deferred and will not take place in the current cycle.
According to the information available, no reshuffle is expected before the conclusion of the upcoming Parliament session and will likely happen end of this year now.
The composition of the new national team is also expected to surprise many within the party. Sources said that several leaders who had conveyed to their supporters that they were likely to be accommodated in the new organisation are unlikely to find a place in the final list.
The constitution of a new national team is a routine organisational exercise that follows the appointment of every BJP national president. However, this time the exercise has assumed greater significance as it will shape the party’s organisational structure during a crucial political period leading up to the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and is expected to guide the organisation over the next decade as most of the members are going to be in the age bracket of 45-55.
Sources said that while the views of Prime Minister Modi, Amit Shah and B.L. Santosh were taken into account during the consultations, the new organisational team is expected to largely reflect the choices of BJP president Nitin Nabin.
According to sources, Prime Minister Modi encouraged Nabin to exercise his autonomy in selecting his team, with the final composition expected to bear his organisational imprint while incorporating inputs from the senior leadership.
