Two-time Congress MLA joins AAP

Former two-time Congress MLA from Timarpur and also the party’s Karwal Nagar district president Surinder Pal Singh Bittoo joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday.

After joining AAP, Bittoo said: “The way AAP has worked for every segment of people in Delhi inspired me to join AAP. I will be working under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal who has paved the way for corruption-free politics.”

“I am grateful to senior AAP leaders to have given me this opportunity to work in the party that has been working and struggling for every section of society,” Bittoo added.

Bittoo was associated with the Congress since 1977. He contested and won the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections that year.

Reacting to Bittoo’s departure, senior Delhi Congress leader Chatter Singh said: “Congress gave Bittoo all possible support and position during his association with the party. He is free to decide his future associations. For an old political party like Congress, such events are not new.”

“The party is bigger than any individual and his departure will not impact the prospects of the Congress in Delhi. Leaving the Congress shows Bittoo’s opportunistic approach. Despite hailing from a humble economic background, his property has multiplied. He must have got some offer from AAP,” Singh said.
