PM will lay Metro Corridor foundation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in town today for laying the foundation of some big ticket infrastructure projects in and around Mumbai. In the afternoon, he will first proceed to JNPT to lay the foundation of the fourth terminal of JNPT at Nhava Sheva. Thereafter, he will lay the foundation of Babasaheb Ambedkar memorial at INDU mills – a project which triggered many protests due to delay. PM Modi will thereafter lay the foundation stone of the Metro Corridor and end his tour with a public meeting. BJP ally Sena is already upset at not being invited for the function. It is learnt that Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray will be out of Mumbai on Sunday to avoid any questions on the issue.
The Maharashtra cabinet recently approved two new Metro lines to be built at the cost of Rs 12,500 crores. Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is likely to start work on both the new Metro lines by next year. The project connecting Dahisar East to Andheri East and Dahisar East to D N Nagar is likely to be completed by 2019. Both the plans are a part of the government’s aim to add 118 kilometre-metro line connectivity to the city.
There will be 17 metro stations on the Dahisar East to D N Nagar route. This route is a part of the Dahisar-Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd Metro II project. The estimated cost of the 18.6 km route is Rs 6,410 crore. The Dahisar East to Andheri East 16.5 kilometre metro route will have 16 stations. The cost of this project will be Rs 6,208. This cost includes the cost of land acquisition too, officials said.
The cost of tickets on these metro lines, too,  will be cheaper.
