Dalit deaths spoil Khattar’s one-year celebration

Although Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is making every effort to highlight the achievements of his government, which completes one year on Monday, he remains marred in controversy.
He recently upset the Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah with his irresponsible comments on beef ban and the state of minorities. The slip of tongue occurred when he went on a spree giving back-to-back interviews. Although he claimed that he had been misinterpreted, he was summoned by Amit Shah.
This was followed by the killing of two dalit children in Faridabad. The two infants were burnt alive after their family was attacked allegedly by Rajputs. The government has decided to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation. The CM is also trying to dispel the notion that it was a case of caste-based violence.
Nevertheless, CM Khattar went ahead highlighting his government’s achievements in the media. He said that his government has implemented a record 52 schemes to benefit the people. Among these are Saasat Adarsh Gram Yojana, Swacch Haryana scheme, e-pension scheme, new mining policy, CM Window and CM Web Portal.
The decision that perhaps generated the biggest hype was setting up of the Justice S.N. Dhingra panel to probe the land deals of Robert Vadra, son-in-law of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
The government’s effort to bring about transparency in the much-maligned recruitment process of the state has also got appreciation from the public.
While Khattar released a booklet highlighting his government’s achievements over the year, his predecessor is all set to launch a document as well. Bhupinder Singh Hooda he will expose the government’s failures by coming up with a question paper based on the 154 promises BJP made to the people before the Assembly elections.
