CBI registers murder case against 11 for killing dalit children

The Central  Bureau of Investigation has registered a case of murder against 11 persons in connection with the killing of two infants of a dalit family in Haryana last week. According to sources in the CBI, a DIG level official is handling the case. A team of CBI officials visited the crime scene to collect forensic evidence on Thursday, the source added.
The Haryana state government has  already constituted an SIT under DCP P.C. Pawar. An FIR registered by the local police had named 11 persons in the case.
The alleged attack on the dalit family took place in Sunpedh village in Haryana on 20 October. Persons belonging to the upper caste had allegedly poured petrol from the window of 31-year-old Jitender’s house and set it ablaze. His wife Rekha, 28, suffered serious burn injuries while their two-and-a-half-year old son Vaibhav and 11-month-old daughter Divya, were killed in the fire. Jitender received burn injures in his hand while trying to douse the fire. Rekha is battling for her life in Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi.
The local police have registered a case against one Balwant and his son Dharm Singh besides nine others under IPC sections 302 (murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object). The other persons named in the FIR are Sooraj, Akash, Naunihal, Joginder, Sanjay, Aman, Jagat, Edal, and Desh Raj.
