Topper pupil declared fail, drowns himself

The gross carelessness of examiners have cost the life of Adnan Gilkar, an 18-year-old student of Government Polytechnic College, Srinagar, who drowned himself in a river after learning that he had failed in Applied Physics. When his parents pressed for re-evaluation of his paper, it came to light that he had topped his class.  Adnan’s parents have described his suicide as murder. They have demanded that the responsibility of this gross error should be fixed and appropriate action should be taken. “After five months since we sought a re-evaluation, it was established my son had topped,” Hilal Ahmad Gilkar, father of Adnan, told the media. Principal of Government Polytechnic College, Taha Indrabi said that responsibility for the error should be fixed so that no other student suffers because of the mistakes of Jammu and Kashmir State Board of Technical Education which conducts the examinations.
