Udhampur: Two CRPF personnel lost their lives and 12 others were injured after a vehicle carrying them skidded off the road and rolled down a deep gorge near Kandva in the Basantgarh area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the CRPF vehicle was travelling along the Kandva–Basantgarh road when it veered off the track and plunged into the gorge. Local residents, along with police teams, rushed to the spot and launched immediate rescue operations. The injured personnel were evacuated and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Additional SP Udhampur, Sandeep Bhat, confirmed the incident and said that after receiving the information, police teams promptly reached the site, conducted the rescue, and ensured that the injured were hospitalised without delay.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh also reacted to the tragedy, expressing concern over the incident. Taking to social media, he wrote:
"Disturbing to receive the news of a road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. The vehicle was carrying several brave jawans of the CRPF. I have just now spoken to DC Saloni Rai, who is personally monitoring the situation and keeping me updated. Rescue measures have been initiated immediately. Locals have voluntarily come forward to assist. All possible help is being ensured."
