J&K police under fire for booking minors

The J&K Police has been criticised by the parents of alleged stone-pelters who say that the police has wrongly framed their children to give the impression that they have taken action against trouble-makers in Srinagar.

The police booked over 12 young men including two minors for arson, stone pelting and waving Pakistani flags every Friday near Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.

Abdul Aziz Khan of Gurez valley in north Kashmir has said that he will meet Home Minister Rajnath Singh as the police have falsely booked his son.  The police maintain that his 10-year-old son Mohammad Ismail is involved in a number of criminal incidents in the area.

The police have been getting flak for being unable to prevent Friday prayer protests by youngsters.

On 10 March, the police begun massive night raids and arrested many youths. Cases have been lodged against most of them in different police stations of Srinagar.
