Siddharth’s family demands justice

The family of 32-year-old Siddharth Sharma, who was mowed down by a speeding Mercedes near the posh Civil Lines area in North Delhi on Monday night, has been running from pillar to post seeking justice for their only son.
The family has raised several questions over the manner in which the investigation into this case is being carried out. Shilpa, Siddharth’s sister, met Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma on Friday to apprise him of the “lackadaisical attitude” of the local police toward this case. Following this, Manoj Aggarwal, the father of the juvenile offender, was arrested on Friday night for abetting the crime of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. It was not the first offence of rash and negligent driving by the accused juvenile.
Earlier, the family had expressed shock and anguish over the attitude of the parents of the juvenile offender, who, according to them, were trying to hush up the matter by using money power.
Shilpa and her family are hugely disappointed with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who refused to pay an audience to them when they visited his residence. Her voice choking, she said: “Kejriwal calls himself an aam aadmi’s Chief Minister, but when an aam aadmi’s brother died in a road accident, he did not even meet us.”  Shilpa said that as a child, Siddharth was intelligent, sharp, fun-loving, and pampered, but emotionally sensitive. She added that Siddharth was fond of music and watched dubbed south Indian movies. “But to me he will always remain my little Siddy,” Shilpa said.
“It is because of somebody’s negligence that my brother had to die. People have lost all humanity, and they think if they have money, they can get away with any crime. This has to stop here,” Shilpa said. The family will be holding a peace and awareness march on Sunday at 5 pm in Connaught Place.
