NIT students will move SC

The outstation students of NIT Srinagar, who skipped their examination following the on-campus row with local students and moved out of Kashmir demanding the institute be shifted elsewhere in India, are feeling dejected as Home Minister Rajnath Singh and HRD Minister Smriti Irani have said the demand cannot be accepted. These students are now demanding an extension centre of NIT at Jammu, and they are planning to move Supreme Court if the government failed to accomodate their demand.

More than 1,500 outstation students of NIT have returned to their native places, saying they don’t want to live under fear in Kashmir. They told the media in Jammu that following the government’s refusal to relocate NIT, they have now requested them to open an extension centre on the pattern of IIT Allahabad.

Meanwhile, their parents have said they are apprehensive of sending them back to Srinagar. The parents said that the outstation students were facing an extremely hostile faculty and the local police too was against them. The parents have appealed to the HRD Ministry to open an extension centre in Jammu so that the future of these students is saved.

Meanwhile, the Kashmir Bar Association and Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) members jointly said in a press conference that the trouble in NIT Srinagar was created under a plan to shift the institute out of the valley. They alleged that some non-local faculty members along with some political groups were behind this.
