Cricketers in J&K draw flak for hailing militants

Jammu and Kashmir opposition leader Omar Abdullah has taken to micro-blogging side Twitter to accuse the Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP government of glorifying militants in South Kashmir, a bastion of the ruling party. The accusation follows a cricket tournament that was organised by the youth of Tral in memory of Khalid Muzaffar Wani, brother of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, the new face of militancy.
Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to remind CM Mehbooba Mufti that militants were being glorified in South Kashmir. The People’s Democratic Party, however, accused the National Conference leader of unleashing terror on young boys when he was in power, as a result of which they were forced to pick up the gun. The PDP further said it would provide a healing touch to reverse this trend.
The local media reported that the organisers have been told to explain to the police who had financed this tournament, which went on for two months. Three teams in the tournament were named after Hizb commanders. “Burhan Lions” was named after Burhan Wani, the new age commander of Hizb. “Abid Qlandars” was named after slain Hizb militant Abid Khan. Another team was named as “Khalid Aryans” after Burhan’s slain brother Khalid Muzaffar Wani.
