Arms licence racket exposed

A retired BSF official was arrested by Delhi Police on Saturday for operating an organised gang that obtained fake arms licences on the basis of false documents from the Northeastern states. Ram Kishan (55), a resident of village Silani, Jhajjar, Haryana, and the mastermind of the gang, was arrested along with one of his accomplices and 15 fake arms licences, along with 14 firearms, were recovered by the police from the duo.
The police had received information that some residents across Delhi and NCR had been obtaining arms licences on the basis of forged documents by showing their residence in Nagaland.  An inquiry was taken up into the matter by the Crime Branch during which some information about such licence holders was gathered and sent to the Licencing Authority Nagaland for verification. The Authority confirmed the above findings and gave details of 65 such licence holders who had obtained arms licences based on fictitious residence proofs. However, these licences had already been cancelled by the said authority. It further came to light that in spite of cancellation orders issued and communicated to such licence holders, some of them were still in possession of the weapons. An FIR was registered with the Crime Branch to investigate into people who had obtained arms on fake licences as the police suspected that they could be having a criminal background.
Ram Kishan retired from BSF in 2011. During his postings in BSF, he got issued two arms licences from Dimapur, Nagaland and Kishtwar in Jammu & Kashmir.  After retirement, he started running a security agency, R.K. Security, in Najafgarh, Delhi. Under the pretext of this business, he got more arms licences issued from Dimapur, for his associates as well. The police said further investigation is on.
