No rape complaints before me: Ex Haryana DGP

Former DGP Prakash Singh, probing the failure on the part of Haryana officials during the Jat agitation, has said that he didn’t come across any rape or molestation allegation during his probe.

“No rape complaint came to me though there were a few incidents of misbehaviour,” Singh told NewX-Sunday Guardian in an interview after submitting his report to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar here on Friday.

The former UP and Assam director general of police added that very few women recorded their statements in any case though over 2,000 persons appeared before the committee set up by the state to “inquire into  omissions and commission on the part of all officers and officials of civil and police administration during reservation agitation from February 7 to 22.”

Asked if the police failed in duty because of the absence of proper instructions from seniors, he said, “What instructions do you need to protect your own police station?” He said in many cases the police personnel simply fled or didn’t deliberately act giving liberty to the agitators who were out to cause destruction. To another question whether the agitation also reflected failure on the part of political leaders, he said probing the political leaders’ role wasn’t the mandate of the committee.
