Mehbooba under pressure to ban use of pellet guns

The Jammu and Kashmir government is likely to take a final call on banning the use of pellet guns with over 180 people getting severe pellet injuries. Many of them have lost their vision. Even former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to either airlift the injured or send a team of eye specialists to cater to the growing emergency in the hospitals of Srinagar.

A team of eye specialists from AIIMS was rushed to Kashmir headed by opthamologist Prof Sudarshan K. Kumar. The team examined patients with pellet injuries in their eyes. Talking to the media, Kumar said that it is a war-like situation as hundreds of people have pellet injuries in their eyes. Most of the doctors have demanded an immediate ban on the use of pellet guns to control the crowds in Kashmir. H.O.D. Opthomology, SMHS hospital, Dr Tariq Quereshi said that the government should immediately ban the use of pellet guns.
