Police was afraid of confronting the jailed SIMI men

Not just officials of the Bhopal Central Jail, even court staff would avoid confronting the jailed 29 SIMI activists who were lodged in the Bhopal Central Jail as they would abuse them and hackle the courtroom staff and the police officials.

On Tuesday, just two days after the prison break, when the police officials entered their cells, they were abused and spat at on their faces. The jail officials were aware that the SIMI activists had taken the aluminum and steel utensils into their cells, but no one could muster the courage to ask them to return them.

On May 2014, when 15 of these SIMI activists were taken to the Bhopal district court for hearing, they had started shouting pro-Taliban slogans like “Ab Modi ki Baari hai’ after which the police had decided to do video conferencing of them for their trial rather than take them to the court.
