Srinagar: The anti-terror operation in the dense forests of Akhal area in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district entered its seventh consecutive day on Thursday, with security forces intensifying efforts to flush out hiding terrorists. The prolonged encounter has already resulted in the killing of two terrorists, while multiple soldiers have sustained injuries since the operation began.
According to official sources, intermittent exchange of fire continued throughout the night. Fresh firing resumed late Wednesday and carried into Thursday morning. During the latest gunfight, three more Army personnel were injured and have been shifted to a military hospital in Srinagar for treatment.
To locate the remaining terrorists, high-tech surveillance equipment, including drones, thermal imaging devices, and helicopter support, has been deployed. Elite units such as the Para Special Forces are actively engaged in the ongoing operation.
“With brief lulls in between, the exchange of fire resumed late last night. In the latest gunfight, three jawans were injured,” said a senior official, adding that the search and cordon operation is still active.
Security forces remain on high alert amid increased infiltration attempts and heightened movement of foreign terrorists in the region.
