Kathua: Alert Border Security Force (BSF) troops foiled an infiltration attempt on the Kathua sector of the International Border on Monday evening, shooting and apprehending a Pakistani national who tried to cross into Indian territory.
According to sources, the incident occurred in the Rajbagh area when BSF personnel noticed suspicious movement near the border fence. The intruder, identified as a Pakistani citizen, was attempting to sneak into the Indian side and moved aggressively towards the fence despite warnings.
In an official statement, the BSF said, “On the evening of 11 August 2025, BSF troops observed suspicious movement wherein a Pak national was seen crossing the IB and approaching aggressively towards the border fence in district Kathua, Jammu. He was warned by alert troops but paid no heed. BSF troops, sensing a threat, fired on his legs.”
The injured intruder was subsequently taken into BSF custody for questioning. Officials said a protest is being lodged with the Pakistani counterparts over the infiltration bid.
Sources said that authorities are working to ascertain whether the man had links to any militant groups or was attempting reconnaissance of the border area.
Security along the International Border in Kathua remains on high alert following recent attempts by Pakistan-based elements to push infiltrators into the Union Territory.
