NEW DELHI: Nitin Nabin is set to become the new BJP president on Tuesday. The next day, the National Council will be formed, and Nitin Nabin's name will be officially approved. As soon as this is completed in the next day or two, the focus will shift to the team that Nitin will form. The announcement of Nitin Nabin's name made it clear that the RSS has once again entrusted Prime Minister Modi with the responsibility of creating a new BJP. This is the first time in the history of the BJP that a young and relatively unknown face has been suddenly placed in the party's highest position. When Nitin Gadkari was made the national president in 2010, he was 53 years old, and was the youngest president at that time. Nitin Nabin is 45 years old.

Significant changes to the BJP's powerful Parliamentary Board seem unlikely. The Parliamentary Board currently comprises Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Sarbananda Sonowal, B.S. Yeddyurappa, K. Laxman, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Sudha Yadav, Satyanarayan Jatiya, and B.L. Santosh. If any changes occur, new faces might replace Yeddyurappa, Satyanarayan Jatiya, and Iqbal Singh, among others. Nitin Nabin will be included in this group as the new president.

What remains to be seen is whether the national general secretaries and joint secretaries will retain their positions or if new faces will be given a chance. These two positions are the most crucial after the president. Currently, B.L. Santosh and Shivprakash hold these responsibilities. Significant changes are expected in the national general secretary positions. Some of those who have held the position for two consecutive terms might be replaced. New appointments are particularly likely in states where elections are scheduled for next year or where the performance reports are not satisfactory.

States like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh might get new in-charges. Chhattisgarh will also get a new in-charge as Nitin Nabin currently holds that responsibility. Moreover, there is talk of changes in some states as well. In Uttarakhand, the state president, Mahendra Pandey, may be replaced. It remains to be seen whether some Central ministers will be brought into the organization. This is because it is considered certain that Prime Minister Modi will make major changes in his team sooner or later. Everyone will be watching to see how many surprises the Prime Minister has in store.
