New Delhi: Congress on Wednesday said that all the alliance partners in Bihar will have to accomodate the new alliance partners and maintained silence on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav as Chief Minister face saying people of the state will elect a new face.

The remarks came after the meeting of the Screening Committee members with the senior Bihar leadership today.

This was the first meeting of the Screening Committee members with the Bihar Congress leadership.

The meeting held at Indira Bhawan was attended by committee Chairperson Ajay Maken, Bihar incharge Krishna Allavaru, state unit chief Rajesh Kumar and CLP leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan.

Sources in the party indicated that during the meeting today at least 55 seats were discussed.

The source also revealed that the party is looking for good candidates for the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference here, Allavaru while responding to the seat sharing formula and how many seats will Congress contest, said, “In this election all the alliance partners will have to accomodate new partners in the upcoming polls from their own quota of seats.”

Allavaru also maintained that there are several new partners in Mahagatbandhan this time and thus all parties will have to work for that.

He even maintained that during the seat sharing talks, the seats need to be divided in such a way that good and strong seats as well as weak seats also go in all alliance partners quota to work strongly.

The Congress also maintained that it has asked the block level organisations to share the names of the probable candidates with the party state leadership by September 14 and then state election committee will have a meeting on September 16.

Allavaru said that the first formal meeting of the Screening Committee will take place on September 19.

Allavaru, while responding to a question on if Tejashwi Yadav is the chief ministerial candidate for Bihar, said that the people of the state will elect their new chief minister in the polls.

The party leaders also maintained that soon the party will come out with the joint manifesto for Bihar.

A party leader maintained that the Congress has already formed the Manifesto Committee three months ago.

The party leader said that the joint manifesto is being given the final touch and after that a joint campaign will be launched on all the 243 assembly seats in the state.

The Congress in the last assembly polls had contested on 70 out of 243 assembly seats in 2020. The Congress had managed to win 19 seats in 2020 assembly polls.
