Srinagar: The 38-day-long annual Amarnath Yatra concluded today with the traditional Puja at the holy cave shrine of Baba Barfani* in the Himalayas. The Yatra, which commenced on June 3, witnessed over 4.14 lakh pilgrims from across India taking part in the spiritually significant journey.

Despite intermittent halts due to inclement weather in Kashmir, the Yatra continued smoothly and concluded peacefully, marking a major success for both security and civil administration.

This year’s Yatra carried added significance as it was held in the backdrop of the April 22 terror attack in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, in which 26 civilians tragically lost their lives. In response, the government implemented unprecedented security measures to prevent any threats during the pilgrimage.

Nearly 55,000 personnel from the CRPF, ITBP, J&K Police, and other agencies were deployed across both traditional routes Pahalgam and Baltal SonmargSurveillance drones, checkpoints, quick response teams, and medical facilities were stationed at critical locations to safeguard the yatris.

During the Yatra period devotees expressed confidence and courage in the face of past threats. “We are not afraid of terrorists. No one can stop us from visiting Baba Barfani,” a pilgrim from Maharashtra said. The spirit of devotion and patriotism echoed throughout the Yatra corridors.

Kashmiri locals along the route also welcomed the pilgrims warmly, offering assistance and expressing joy at the revival of peace and tourism. The local economy saw a boost as thousands of yatris brought business to transporters, shopkeepers, ponywalas, and hoteliers.

Officials termed the successful conclusion of the Yatra a testament to coordination between security agencies and the civil administration. The shrine board and various departments ensured food, lodging, medical aid, and sanitation facilities were maintained despite weather and logistical challenges.

The peaceful culmination of this year’s Yatra not only strengthened religious harmony but also reaffirmed Kashmir’s enduring tradition of welcoming pilgrims with open hearts.
