CHANDIGARH: Anmol Bishnoi, identified by investigators as a key culprit in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case and the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been deported from the United States and is expected to land in India on Wednesday. Teams from the National Investigation Agency and Delhi Police remained stationed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport to take him into custody as soon as he arrives.

Anmol, who hails from Fazilka in Punjab, has long been seen as one of the most active members of the Bishnoi gang operating abroad. His role in supplying weapons and logistics to the shooters who killed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in village Moosa in 2022 forms a major part of the investigations into Punjab’s gang networks.

Officials said Anmol faces more than eighteen cases across Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, ranging from the attack on NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai to the firing incident outside the residence of actor Salman Khan. His alleged involvement in high-profile attacks has placed him at the centre of multiple inter-state probes.

He was on the NIA’s wanted list, which had announced a reward of ten lakh rupees for information leading to his arrest. The agency has chargesheeted him in two cases, and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has named him in the Siddique murder and Salman Khan firing cases. A Red Corner Notice was issued against him in December 2022.

According to investigators, Anmol fled to the US under a false identity about a month before Moosewala’s murder. He used the name Bhanu Pratap and provided a Faridabad address to obtain travel documents. In November 2024, US immigration authorities arrested him for using forged papers, later releasing him with an ankle tracker.

India requested his extradition in January 2024. The US Department of State then sought detailed case files, technical evidence and financial records in March this year. Anmol applied for asylum but a Louisiana court rejected his plea, clearing the way for his deportation.

Officials said Anmol’s case has also deepened the rift between Lawrence and his long-time associate Goldy Brar, another gangster from Punjab operating abroad. Lawrence was reportedly upset that Brar and gangster Rohit Godara did not help Anmol secure the bail bond he needed in the US.
