Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party leader and Kharar MLA Anmol Gagan Maan has resigned from her post, leading to another vacancy in the Punjab Assembly. She had earlier served as a Cabinet Minister but was removed during a reshuffle in September 2024.

In an emotional post on social media, Anmol Gagan Maan said she was stepping away from politics and wished the party well for the future.

Earlier, Tarn Taran MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal passed away in late June, leaving that seat vacant as well. With both Kharar and Tarn Taran seats now empty, Punjab will witness two by-elections in the coming months.

As per Election Commission rules, these bypolls must be held within six months. Both seats were won by the Aam Aadmi Party in the 2022 elections, and the upcoming contests will be seen as a test of the party’s popularity halfway through its term.

All eyes are now on the Election Commission’s announcement, and parties are preparing for a fresh round of campaigning.
