Army helps stranded Amarnath pilgrims with food and shelter amid harsh weather. Rescues them.

Srinagar: The Indian Army has been actively assisting Amarnath Yatris on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes as inclement weather continues to affect the region. Over the past few days, Kashmir has witnessed heavy rainfall and cloudy conditions, causing significant disruptions to the Yatra.

A major landslide along the Baltal route washed away a portion of the road, leading to a tragic incident where seven pilgrims were swept away, and one woman lost her life.

The Indian Army responded swiftly, reaching the affected site without delay. Rescue operations were immediately launched, and the troops provided food, medical aid, and other necessary assistance to stranded Yatris, ensuring their safety and well-being during this critical time.

In these testing circumstances, the Indian Army rose to the occasion with swift, selfless action, offering shelter, food, and reassurance to the affected Yatris. Each rescued pilgrim expressed heartfelt gratitude to the brave soldiers—a sentiment echoed across numerous accounts of the night.

These acts of courage, empathy, and unwavering dedication are what continue to set the Indian Army apart—not just as protectors of the nation, but as guardians of its spirit.

After being halted due to continuous rainfall and landslides, the 16th batch of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims who were staying at Baltal and Nunwan base camps have resumed their journey towards the holy cave shrine.

According to officials:
The Baltal route convoy carried 2,879 pilgrims in 92 vehicles.
The Pahalgam route convoy carried 5,029 pilgrims in 169 vehicles.
Grand total: 7,908 pilgrims in 282 vehicles.

The Yatra had been temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions, but improved conditions allowed the safe resumption of the pilgrimage. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety of all devotees.

So far, over 2.50 lakh devotees have paid obeisance at the sacred cave shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji, located in the South Kashmir Himalayas, since the pilgrimage commenced on July 3. The 38-day annual pilgrimage is scheduled to conclude on August 9.

On April 22 this year, one of the deadliest attacks on tourists in Pahalgam claimed the lives of 26 people, raising serious security concerns ahead of the annual Amarnath Yatra. With high terror threats looming, the task of securing the pilgrimage became a major challenge for security forces.

However, through meticulous planning and coordinated efforts, security agencies have ensured a safe and smooth Yatra so far. Pilgrims from across the country have expressed deep gratitude to the forces, not only for the tight security cover but also for their compassionate assistance throughout the journey.

Security personnel are seen actively helping Yatris—from guiding them along difficult routes to providing medical aid, food, and logistical support—reinforcing a sense of safety and unity during the sacred pilgrimage.
