Coach of Uma Chetry Mehboob Alam, the first coach of Assam’s cricket sensation Uma Chetry, expressed heartfelt pride following India’s historic victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. In an exclusive conversation with TSG, Alam stated that it’s a proud moment for him as his student Uma was part of the World Cup winning squad. “It’s a very proud moment for us, we trained her and her perfomance during the world cup should be praised. As I trained her, since starting time of her training she was completely dedicated, disciplined and she knows how to complete the task. I also inspired her by telling that she should not be limited for the state team, she should play for the country,” said Mehboob Alam.
Alam reflected that he has more expectations from Chetry to contribute for the team. “She had been replaced by a player Yastika Bhatia. There is a challenge for her to be in team eleven and should score more, should contribute for the team victory, she is very young and high opportunities waiting for her sucess. Other than her I have seen players like Harmanpreet Kaur Semi final innings was awesome, Smriti Mandhana Played against New Zealand was awesome innings, Bowler Dipti Sharma performed very well etc,” added Alam.
He further sparked other Assam state player names, “I have seen some of state players potentials for further ICC Worldcup tournaments such as, under 19 last year captain Amontika Munda is having good potentials,, under 15 girl Dolly etc. Assam State player having great potentials for upcoming Cricket opportunities.”
