The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MPs on Tuesday staged a protest in Parliament over the rising crime and growing insecurity among women in Odisha, and considering the insensitive attitude of the BJP government in the state.

The BJD MPs braved the rain to stage a protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament. They carried posters that read ‘unsafe Odisha, silent government,’ and shameful and painful.’

Speaking on the issue, BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra said, “We staged a protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue because of the way women and children are unsafe in Odisha, the way we have seen in Bahanada and FM College Balasore, the heinous crimes that are being conducted, and the judicial inquiry.

Patra also said that the BJP government led by Mohan Charan Majhi is sleeping, so therefore we hope that the cries for the justice of women and girls and children are heard in Parliament and are heard by the Center, and this double-engine government takes action at least in Odisha, where they are in power.

“And the protection of women and children, especially those who have been affected and injustice has been done, will be ensured justice,” the BJD MP added.

The BJD has been targeting the state government over the increased crime against women and children in the state in the last few months. The BJD had also earlier staged a protest in Odisha after a college student self-immolated and later died during treatment.
