BJP aiming to sustain victory trend of 35 years in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh

NEW DELHI: Damoh constituency in MP, renowned for culture, tourism, sees BJP’s bid for continued dominance since 1989.

Damoh, a prominent Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh, known for its rich culture and tourism, consists of eight assembly segments: Deori, Rehli, Banda, Malhara, Pathariya, Damoh, Jabera, and Hatta. Locals acknowledge the developmental strides made under the incumbent MP, Prahlad Singh Patel, yet express the need for further progress, hoping for continued BJP leadership.

With a stronghold since 1989, the BJP aims to extend its winning streak in Damoh. Prahlad Singh Patel, the current MP, has secured victory in five consecutive Lok Sabha elections. As Damoh prepares for polls in the second phase on April 26, BJP’s Rahul Lodhi contests against Congress’ Tarvar Singh Lodhi.

Amitesh Trivedi, a Damoh resident, anticipates a resounding BJP victory, citing the party’s commitment to local development under Prahalad Singh Patel’s tenure.

Ruchi Singh, a first-time voter, supports the BJP, prioritising the need for improved educational infrastructure in Damoh to prevent student migration to other cities.

While the BJP seeks to bolster its vote share, the opposition aims to reclaim ground. The 2019 General Assembly Elections witnessed intense competition, with a notable 65.82% voter turnout. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, BJP’s Prahlad Singh Patel secured victory with a significant margin. Despite its diverse demographic, Damoh grapples with persistent issues such as education, healthcare, unemployment, and migration. Despite notable developments like cow shelters and road construction, challenges like unfulfilled economic potential persist, raising concerns among locals.
