Party targets closely contested constituencies with data-driven organisational strategy ahead of 2027 elections.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accelerated its preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections by formulating a constituency-specific strategy aimed at strengthening its prospects in closely contested seats. The party is conducting a detailed review of the electoral dynamics across all Assembly constituencies, with particular emphasis on seats that were either won or lost by margins of less than 10,000 votes.

According to party sources, these constituencies have been identified as key battlegrounds for the 2027 polls. The BJP is devising a comprehensive strategy to reinforce its organisational structure while expanding its social outreach in these electorally sensitive seats. A source told The Sunday Guardian that the party has started preparing a list of Assembly constituencies where the victory or defeat margin was below 10,000 votes in the last election. These seats will be given special organisational attention as part of the BJP’s “Mission 2027” roadmap.

As part of the exercise, the party plans to appoint dedicated constituency in-charges for these strategically important seats. The responsibility is likely to be assigned to leaders who have experience in contesting or managing tightly fought elections. Uttar Pradesh BJP President Pankaj Chaudhary and State General Secretary (Organisation) Dharampal Singh have reportedly directed party functionaries to begin the groundwork for these appointments.

Unlike traditional election coordinators, the newly appointed in-charges will be expected to remain actively engaged in their assigned constituencies throughout the year. Their responsibilities will include organising public outreach campaigns, youth interactions, farmers’ chaupals, and conferences for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Dalit communities as part of the party’s effort to broaden its social support base.

The BJP has undertaken a detailed assessment of the 2017 and 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election results and has also analysed Assembly-wise voting patterns from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to identify constituencies where its electoral position weakened. Party sources said special attention is being given to the 18 districts where the Samajwadi Party (SP) gained an advantage during the parliamentary polls. Senior BJP leaders and Union Ministers are likely to be appointed as “cluster in-charges” to oversee organisational strengthening and political coordination in these districts.

The party is also preparing a separate strategy for constituencies where it has historically struggled, including seats it has never won or has managed to capture only once or twice. Experienced leaders are expected to be deployed in these areas with the objective of strengthening the organisation and improving the party’s electoral prospects.

The renewed focus comes after the BJP’s electoral setback in the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, when its seat tally declined by 57 compared to the 2017 mandate, while the Samajwadi Party increased its strength by 64 seats.
