Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday said he has submitted a motion in the Lok Sabha against Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of misleading the country. Dubey has sought the termination of Gandhi’s membership in Parliament and a lifetime disqualification from contesting elections.

Addressing the media, Dubey alleged that Gandhi was attempting to mislead the nation with the backing of “forces like George Soros,” whom he claimed were working against India’s interests.

“I have moved a motion in the Lok Sabha today against Rahul Gandhi for misleading the nation. In the motion, I have requested that his membership be terminated and that he be barred for life from contesting elections,” Dubey said.
The development follows Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha a day earlier, in which he accused the Central government of compromising India’s national interests in the context of shifting global dynamics.

In his address, Gandhi said the government has itself acknowledged that the world is going through a “global storm,” marked by the decline of a unipolar world order, rising geopolitical tensions, and the weaponisation of energy and financial systems. Despite recognising these trends, he alleged, the government had allowed the United States to leverage energy and financial tools in a way that adversely impacts India.

“When America dictates that we cannot purchase oil from a certain country, it means our energy security is being controlled from outside. Energy is being weaponised against us. Have you no shame? I am saying you have compromised India’s interests,” Gandhi said in the House.

He also flagged concerns over trade and tariffs, claiming that average tariff rates had risen from about 3 per cent to 18 per cent — a sixfold increase. Simultaneously, he alleged that US exports to India are expected to surge from USD 46 billion to USD 146 billion. Calling the situation “absurd,” Gandhi contended that India was committing to a sharp rise in imports without securing concrete reciprocal benefits.

Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi further questioned why industrialist Anil Ambani had not been jailed, alleging that his name figured in US Department of Justice documents related to the Epstein case. He also claimed that there was “direct pressure” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in relation to the India-US nuclear deal and other key sectors.

“I have said that I will authenticate the data I have. There are Department of Justice files related to Epstein that mention Hardeep Puri and Anil Ambani. In the Adani case, summons have been issued, and the Government of India has not responded for the last 18 months,” Gandhi said. He added that decisions taken in areas such as data, farmers’ interests, energy security and defence would not occur under normal circumstances without external pressure.

The BJP hit back strongly at Gandhi’s remarks. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi termed him an “immature part-time politician” and said he had failed to provide any evidence to support his allegations. “He has not produced any proof for what he said yesterday. The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry will take a decision on this,” Joshi said regarding a possible privilege motion.

Meanwhile, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also said BJP MPs would move a privilege notice against Gandhi for “misleading the House and making baseless allegations.” He accused the Congress leader of levelling false charges against the government and Prime Minister Modi.

The exchange has intensified the political face-off between the BJP and the Congress in Parliament, with both sides sharpening their attacks over foreign policy, economic matters, and allegations of impropriety.
