The paramilitary force undertakes largest sports recruitment in its history

New Delhi: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has inducted 332 athletes in what is being described as the largest sports recruitment in its history, marking a significant push to strengthen its sporting presence and align with the country’s ambitions on the global stage.

The recruitment process, official sources told the Sunday Guardian, which began in May this year, attracted more than 14,000 applications, with around 10,000 athletes appearing for trials held at 16 locations across the country, including Guwahati, Chandigarh and Bhopal. Following a rigorous selection procedure, 332 national-level medallists were chosen, among them 18 international gold medallists and 56 national gold medallists.

According to senior CISF officials sources, a record number of women athletes were included in this drive, with 179 personnel selected from 23 states and six union territories, including the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. More than 75 percent of the athletes are in the 18-22 age group, a bracket that is expected to reach peak performance by the time India bids for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and future Olympics.

The intake will allow CISF to raise 34 new teams across disciplines such as archery, lawn tennis, badminton and cycling. Officials said this expansion reflects a broader vision that prioritises early talent identification, professional training, infrastructure development and gender inclusivity.

By inducting such a large number of young athletes, CISF hopes to not only strengthen its performance in the All-India Police Games but also contribute to India’s efforts to become a global podium contender.
