Delhi Congress blames BJP for dengue spike, demolitions; vows street-level agitation.
New Delhi: Amid growing concerns over rising vector-borne diseases and JJ cluster demolitions, Delhi Congress launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s government, accusing them of “gross administrative failures” and “zero empathy” for the poor.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav announced a high-powered party committee to study civic issues, including evictions of street vendors and demolitions. The panel’s report will form the basis of a public protest campaign. “Congress workers will hit the streets against inhumane demolition drives,” Yadav said.
He blamed the Rekha Gupta administration for failing to control mosquito-borne diseases. “Twenty days of rainfall has caused waterlogging across Delhi, leading to 246 dengue cases, 101 malaria cases, and 11 chikungunya cases as of July 16,” he noted.
Yadav said Delhi reported 538 dengue and 30 malaria deaths in 2023, and this year already has 6,391 dengue cases—proof of continued failures by BJP and AAP. He accused the CM of focusing more on “event optics” than real emergencies.
Yadav also cited discrimination in public health services, claiming NDMC areas were prioritised over the rest of Delhi. He exposed critical staff shortages: 7 of 12 epidemiologist posts, 92 of 150 malaria inspector positions, and 391 of 600 assistant roles are vacant.
Nearly 50% of DBC workers are threatening to strike over job security, pay parity, and health benefits. Yadav demanded immediate recruitment, intensified fogging, and a robust awareness campaign. He warned of escalating protests if urgent action isn’t taken.
