Congress chief Kharge holds meeting with Bihar leaders to discuss poll preparedness, seat sharing

New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge along with Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday met with the leaders of Bihar to discuss the poll preparations and seat sharing ahead of the crucial assembly polls in the state.

The meeting comes days after the Voter Adhikar Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi concluded in Bihar that the party stressed has rejuvenated the workers and cadres across the state.

The meeting was chaired by Kharge and besides Rahul Gandhi, it was also attended by Screening Committee chairman Ajay Maken, KC Venugopal, Bihar incharge Krishna Allavaru, state unit chief Rajesh Kumar, party MPs Tariq Anwar, Mohammad Javed, Akhilesh Prasad Singh, Manoj Kumar, Ranjeet Ranjan, CLP Mohammad Shekeel Ahmed Khan, NSUI incharge Kanhaiya Kumar, Madan Mohan Jha, Pappu Yadav and others. 

The meeting that lasted for over an hour where discussions on seat sharing, party's poll preparedness and other issues were also discussed.

After the meeting, Allavaru while speaking to the media said that several issues were discussed.

He stated that the discussion on several issues were held which included seat sharing, manifesto and campaign committee. 

He also said that future strategy has been decided during the meeting.

Meanwhile, a Congress source said that the party wants to keep the momentum up in the state and thus several programmes of Rahul Gandhi and other senior leadership is being planned from September 20 onwards. 

He also stated that the seat sharing talks will continue with the alliance partners in the state and the Congress will look for respectable seats in the state as the people know very well about the strength of the grand old party. 

Rahul Gandhi had covered over 25 districts in Bihar during his 16 day voter adhikar Yatra. 

The polling for the 243 member assembly is scheduled later this year with the ruling NDA comprising of BJP, JDU, HAM-S,  LJPR and others are looking to retain the power while the Mahagatbandhan led by RJD, Congress, VIP, Left parties are also eyeing to wrest power.

The Mahagatbandhan had raised the issue of voter theft during the Rahul Gandhi's yatra in Bihar.
