NEW DELHI: Congress is all set to hold the extended CWC meeting in Bihar for the first time after independence in the state, just like it held the party's highest decision body meeting in Telangana in 2023 after which it formed the government there.

The grand old party announced to hold the extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Bihar just ahead of the crucial assembly polls.

The meeting will be attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and all 170 members of the committee, marking a significant political event ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.

The party sources said that holding the extended CWC meeting in the state for the first time in the state after independence. The party had held the CWC meeting in Bihar in 1940.

The sources in the party said that during the extended CWC meeting a resolution on the alleged vote theft will be brought.

The sources also said that the resolution will also thank Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for taking out the Voter Adhikar Yatra on the issue of voter theft and the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise of the voter rolls by the Election Commission.

The sources said that the CWC meeting in Patna will not only focus on Bihar but will also discuss key national concerns, including inflation, unemployment, atrocities against women, and what he described as a government that bows to US President Donald Trump.

Bihar Congress incharge Krishna Allavaru on Monday in Patna had likened the meeting of the extended CWC as a struggle of independence.

The Congress has also planned for multiple press conference in at least 20 districts to highlight the vote theft and also to launch the Ghar Ghar Adhikar Abhiyan.

State unit chief Rajesh Ram recalled that in 1921, freedom fighter Maulana Mazharul Haq donated 21 acres of land to establish Sadaqat Ashram, which became a key hub of India's Independence movement.

It was here that Mahatma Gandhi, Rajendra Prasad, and Jawaharlal Nehru strategised for the freedom struggle, with the Champaran Satyagraha serving as a pivotal starting point.

Meanwhile, the sources also indicated that the party has planned the meeting in Bihar just like Telangana.

In Telangana, the Congress had held the extended CWC meeting in 2023 and a massive rally that was addressed by Sonia Gandhi and the guarantees were announced in the same public meeting.

The Congress after that public meeting and the CWC meeting had made a comeback to power in the southern state.

The similar meeting, the source said, will also help the Congress to come back to power in the state after the meeting.

However, there is a small difference in the pattern of Telangana and Bihar meeting as instead of a massive public meeting, multiple press conferences has been planned in 20 districts of the state.

Rahul Gandhi had taken out voter adhikar Yatra for 16 days covering 1300 kms and over 25 districts in the state over the issue of voter theft and SIR. The party feels that with the extended CWC meeting in Patna, the party will be able to keep the momentum going in the state ahead of the crucial polls.

Election dates are likely to be announced in Bihar by Election Commission in the first week of October after the visit of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Polling for the 243 member assembly is scheduled to take place in the month of October and November later this year.

The Mahagatbandhan or Grand alliance is looking to wrest power from the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in the state.
