The Congress on Friday took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat's remarks on stepping aside at 75 years of age, saying what kind of a homecoming is this for the Prime Minister that upon returning from abroad he was reminded by the Sarsanghchalak that he will turn 75 this year and added one arrow, two targets.
In a post on X, Jairam Ramesh, who is Congress General Secretary and communications incharge said, "Poor award-winning Prime Minister! What a homecoming - reminded by the RSS chief upon return that he will turn 75 on September 17, 2025."
"But the Prime Minister could also tell the RSS chief that - he too will turn 75 on September 11, 2025! One arrow, two targets," he added.
His remarks came after Bhagwat during an event in Nagpur on Wednesday, mentioned Sangh ideologue late Moropant Pingley's statement about stepping aside after 75 years of age.
Bhagwat specifically referred to Pingley's remarks that when the shawl of 75 years is draped over you, it means that you have reached a certain age and should step aside and let others work.
Even Congress media and publicity department chairperson Pawan Khera took a swipe at Prime Minister Modi.
In a video statement he said, "Yesterday, Bhagwat ji shared a good news. He is not known for giving good news but he gave it yesterday. He said that one should retire after turning 75. Why is this a good news? Mohan Bhagwat is turning 75 on September 11 and on September 17, Narendra Modi is turning 75."
Khera, who is also a CWC (highest decision making body of the party) member said that I always think where Narendra Modi would have been if not in politics... I feel he would have been in Bollywood."
"He didn't join Bollywood, hence it was saved but the country couldn't. In the last 11 years, he has not done well for the country, the Constitution, or institutions. This is a good news because on September 17 we will get rid of this pair, as this is the sake pair which has ruined the situation of the Constitution, the soul of the country."
"All of you should now be happy because India, the Constitution, the soul of the country, are going to witness 'acche din' as Narendra Modi, Mohan Bhagwat will be retiring," Khera added.
