Srinagar: In a rare and inspiring tale of love, duty, and patriotism, a husband-wife duo from the Border Security Force (BSF), both serving as Assistant Commandants, are posted together at one of the most sensitive and high-risk zones in Jammu and Kashmir the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district.
In a region known for frequent infiltration bids, terror threats, and harsh terrain, Assistant Commandant Ruchi and Assistant Commandant Rohit stand shoulder-to-shoulder not just as life partners, but as comrades in arms. Deployed at the zero line, their daily routine involves high-altitude patrols, surveillance, checkpoint inspections and counter-infiltration operations.
Both officers are posted in the same BSF unit in northern Kashmir, a decision that reflects not only operational needs but also the force's evolving understanding of modern personnel management and family support in conflict zones.
The couple has played a critical role in 'Operation Sindoor', a high-stakes anti-terror operation along the LoC where intense shelling and exchange of fire took place. They recall how they coordinated during the operation, offering each other strength while performing their duties with utmost professionalism.
"We are soldiers first. During Operation Sindoor, we didn't think as husband and wife. We thought as officers committed to neutralising the threat," said Assistant Commandant Rohit. "Being deployed in Kashmir is a challenge, but having a partner who understands the pressure of command makes us more effective. We don't take decisions emotionally, but tactically," added Assistant Commandant Ruchi.
Sources in BSF said that spouse postings in operational areas are rare but not unheard of, especially when both officers have the operational experience and capability to serve in high-threat environments. It's also seen as a morale booster, especially for women officers posted far from their families.
BSF officials in Kashmir confirmed that both officers have shown exemplary professionalism and dedication, and are part of multiple ongoing operations in Kupwara and Baramulla sectors, which have witnessed heightened activity following the Delhi Red Fort blast and recent terror alerts. While they operate under heavy threat, the couple remains grounded in their commitment to duty. For them, guarding the border is more than a job; it is a shared mission. Their story stands as a symbol of strength, equality, and resilience, proving that love and patriotism can co-exist, even at the edge of war.
