CHANDIGARH: Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has issued a legal notice to Punjab Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Aman Arora, accusing him of making defamatory and malicious statements. Under the notice Sirsa demands an immediate apology and retraction of the alleged remarks made on social media and other public platforms.
The controversy sparked from a recent social media post by Aman Arora on X, where he accused Sirsa of having ties with gangsters and protecting them through central jails.
The post written in Punjabi labeled the situation as "very embarrassing" and claimed that the BJP with which Sirsa is affiliated, is involved in shielding criminals. Arora’s remarks were made in the context of the murder of prominent social worker and businessman Sanjay Verma, suggesting that Sirsa’s stance supports such activities.
"He must immediately withdraw his baseless and defamatory statement and issue a clear public apology on social media platforms", Sirsa shared a post on his account X.
In the legal notice, Sirsa’s counsel asserted that the public and media have been misled by Arora’s statements, leading to significant reputational damage. The notice highlights that Sirsa has received numerous calls from concerned individuals and that his hard-earned reputation among friends, family, and professional associates has been tarnished. It further alleged that Arora’s comments were made with malicious intent to harm Sirsa’s character and public standing.
The notice demands that Arora cease making any further defamatory statements and issue an unconditional apology in writing across all social media platforms within 24 hours. It also called for the withdrawal of the offending statements from all public mediums where they were published. "The failure to comply the notice will result in legal proceedings against Arora at his own risk, cost, and consequences", reads the notice.
Sources close to Sirsa suggest that Sirsa plans to pursue the matter vigorously, potentially escalating it to the courts if his demands are not met. Meanwhile, Arora has yet to respond officially, though his supporters have defended the post as a legitimate critique of political affiliations.
