NEW DELHI: In response to Pakistan’s intensified aggression along the western border and the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Armed Forces have taken swift and decisive action. Simultaneously, the Delhi Police have ramped up security measures across the national capital, placing sensitive locations on high alert due to escalating hostilities, which have included nighttime cross-border shelling in several border regions, including Jammu, according to police officials. To ensure foolproof security, Delhi Police have deployed additional personnel, including paramilitary forces, at critical infrastructure sites such as government buildings, sewage and water treatment plants, courts, and foreign embassies. All police personnel in Delhi have been instructed to cancel their leaves to maintain heightened vigilance. Sources from the police confirmed the deployment of antiaircraft guns at strategic locations across the Capital. Paramilitary commandos and SWAT teams have been stationed in the New Delhi district, while other districts are conducting intensified security checks. A senior police officer stated that security has been bolstered throughout key areas of the city. Bomb Disposal Squads (BDS) have also been conducting security drills in congested areas, including markets and malls, to counter potential threats. These exercises are part of broader efforts to strengthen public safety across Delhi. Additionally, mock drills have been carried out at various locations across the Capital in coordination with other agencies. Meanwhile, the Civil Defence Directorate tested an air raid siren at the PWD Headquarters in the ITO area. PWD Minister Parvesh Verma announced that from Friday night, 40 to 50 sirens would be installed on multi-storey and highrise buildings throughout Delhi. These sirens, controlled by a central command centre under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), will serve as an alert system during emergencies, including blackouts, and will be activated for five-minute durations when needed. Daily, in the North West District, senior police officers have conducted night briefings on antiterror preparedness, instructing staff to intensify night patrols, enforce strict picket checks, and remain on high alert. Similarly, a comprehensive security sweep in the East District was conducted at the Trilokpuri Sanjay Jheel Metro Station in coordination with CISF personnel and other security staff. In the North District, anti-terror measures were also escalated, with personnel conducting precautionary checks to address potential threats and maintain public safety. Security checks have also been heightened at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport to ensure the safety of passengers. Moreover, bomb squads have conducted antisabotage inspections at several key locations, and all incoming vehicles to the Capital have been subjected to thorough checks, according to officials. These actions follow fresh attempts by Pakistan to target Indian military sites using drones and missiles in areas such as Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. The Indian Armed Forces successfully neutralised these threats, which were part of a broader plan to strike military installations in 15 northern and western cities. According to the Defence Ministry, Pakistani forces aimed at military targets in Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bathinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.
