The FBI has revealed that a major terrorist attack planned for New Year’s Eve in North Carolina was stopped before it could take place.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the operation in a post on X. He wrote, “The @FBI and partners foiled another potential New Year’s Eve attack from an individual allegedly inspired by ISIS. @FBICharlotte will be speaking at a press conference shortly with more details. Thanks to our great partners for working with us and undoubtedly saving lives.”
FBI Confirms Suspect Was Inspired by ISIS
The FBI’s Charlotte office also released a statement confirming the nature of the threat. It said, “The #FBI and our law enforcement partners thwarted a potential terrorist attack on New Year’s Eve in North Carolina. The subject was directly inspired to act by ISIS.”
Officials said the suspect was motivated by extremist ideology and was preparing to carry out an attack during the New Year celebrations.
Teenager Planned to Attack Grocery Store
According to a report, the suspect is an 18-year-old who was allegedly planning to attack a grocery store in Charlotte, North Carolina. Investigators said the teen had reached out to people he believed were members of ISIS.
However, those individuals were actually undercover law enforcement officers. This allowed authorities to monitor the suspect closely and stop the attack before it could happen.
Undercover Operation Helped Prevent Loss of Life
Law enforcement officials said the undercover operation played a key role in preventing the planned attack. By identifying the suspect early and tracking his actions, officers were able to step in before anyone was hurt.
Authorities are expected to share more details during a press conference as the investigation continues.
