Heavy rains in Jammu & Kashmir trigger flash floods in Pahalgam and Kathua; Kishtwar death toll rises to 67 as authorities issue flood warnings.

Rising water levels in Pahalgam and cloudburst-hit Kishtwar prompt rescue operations, with authorities urging residents to take safety precautions.
Srinagar: Rising water levels in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam region have begun to disrupt daily life, with flash flood-like conditions reported in the upper reaches. Continuous rainfall over the past 24 hours has pushed water levels dangerously close to the alert mark, prompting authorities to issue a 24-hour flood advisory.
Officials warn that continued rainfall may lead to flooding and cloudburst situations not just in South Kashmir, but also in Central and North Kashmir. Residents living near rivers, streams, and other vulnerable zones have been advised to shift to safer locations until the weather stabilizes.
In Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, at least four people were killed and six others injured after a cloudburst triggered flash floods during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The sudden deluge caused significant damage to infrastructure and residential areas.
Meanwhile, Kishtwar district continues to reel under the impact of a devastating cloudburst earlier this week. The death toll has climbed to 67, with many still missing. Massive destruction to homes and public infrastructure has been reported, and rescue operations by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local administration are ongoing.
Authorities across the Union Territory remain on high alert and have urged people to closely monitor official advisories and take precautionary measures.
