Katra: A landslide struck the Vaishno Devi Yatra route near Banganga on Sunday, injuring at least four pilgrims and triggering panic among devotees. The incident occurred when debris came crashing down on a shed area, trapping several people underneath.

Rescue operations are still underway, with men and machinery working continuously at the site to clear the debris and ensure no one else remains trapped. As a precautionary measure, the traditional Yatra route has been temporarily suspended.
Senior officers from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Jammu and Kashmir Police are present on the spot, personally monitoring the rescue efforts and coordinating with the ground teams.
A senior police officer at the site said, “Our teams responded immediately. Four injured persons have been rescued and shifted to hospital. We are ensuring that the route is cleared at the earliest and that the area is safe for the pilgrims.”
Pilgrims have been advised to stay alert and follow official advisories, especially in view of the ongoing rains which have increased the risk of landslides in the region.
