Srinagar: Security forces today foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Torna area of Uri sector in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

According to the sources, troops deployed along the LoC observed suspicious movement near the forward posts in the early hours and challenged the individuals attempting to cross over. The infiltrators opened fire, triggering a brief exchange. Following the encounter, a massive search operation was launched in the dense forest area to track down the infiltrators.

So far, no casualties have been reported from either side. The Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have not issued an official statement yet, but the operation is ongoing and more details are expected.

This incident marks the latest in a series of infiltration attempts reported along the LoC this month. On August 13, a soldier lost his life in the Uri sector during a gunfight with infiltrators near the border. Earlier, in the first week of August, Another bid was foiled in the Keran sector, where troops recovered weapons and war-like stores following a brief firefight.

Officials say the recent surge in infiltration attempts suggests increased activity from across the border as militant groups try to push operatives into the Valley before the onset of winter. Security forces remain on high alert along the LoC with intensified patrols, surveillance, and counter-infiltration measures in place.
