SRINAGAR: Security forces have been placed on the highest operational alert across border districts of Jammu and Kashmir amid a surge in drone-assisted smuggling attempts, aerial drops, and infiltration bids along forward sectors.
In a significant counter-terror operation, security personnel eliminated three militants linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed during an encounter in Kishtwar district. Officials described the action as a major disruption to militant networks seeking to re-establish operational presence in the region’s mountainous terrain.
Defence sources indicated that recent infiltration attempts reflect evolving tactics, including drone-borne payloads and improvised aerial balloons used to drop weapons, communication devices, and narcotics near forward positions. These consignments are believed to be retrieved by overground operatives to sustain cross-border terror logistics and financing channels.
A strengthened, multi-tier surveillance and checkpoint system has been deployed in the sensitive Tangdhar sector along the Line of Control (LoC).
The grid integrates ground patrols, thermal imaging systems, counter-drone technology, and coordinated human intelligence input to detect and intercept suspicious movement.
Security officials stated that the enhanced posture is designed to counter “hybrid infiltration patterns,” in which armed militants attempt entry alongside narcotics consignments to strain monitoring systems.
At the Karnah checkpoint, security forces have conducted multiple seizures of weapons, explosives, and drug consignments in recent months. Authorities assess that narcotics trafficking is increasingly intertwined with terror financing, providing logistical and financial support to militant networks. Officials confirmed that anti-smuggling operations have been intensified, with intelligence units focusing on trafficking coordinators, handlers, and financial linkages across the frontier.
Residents in forward villages have expressed growing concern following recent security developments and reports of heightened military preparedness. Several families living near the LoC have reportedly begun relocating to safer areas without formal advisories, citing fears of escalation.
Local communities have called for strengthened civilian protection measures, including reinforced bunkers, emergency shelters, and improved evacuation protocols. Community representatives say those remaining in vulnerable zones require additional security assurances and essential supplies.
Security agencies have expanded area domination patrols, reinforced forward posts, and deployed additional technical surveillance assets in vulnerable corridors.
Coordination between the Indian Army, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies has been streamlined to ensure rapid response capability against infiltration attempts and cross-border smuggling. Officials emphasized that the current posture remains preventive and intelligence-driven, aimed at neutralizing threats before they reach civilian areas.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious aerial activity or unattended objects to local security units. Defence sources reiterated that counter-terror and counter-smuggling operations will continue at an elevated level “for as long as evolving threats persist along the frontier.”
