MoU brings India’s first bioplastic plant at Kumbhi Sugar Mill Complex; Balrampur Chini Mills urges local collaboration to train youth.
NEW DELHI: On Saturday, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, laid the foundation stone for the nation’s first biopolymer plant at the Kumbhi Sugar Mill Complex in Lakhimpur Kheri. This ambitious project, with an investment of Rs 2,850 crore, marks a significant milestone. While addressing the gathering, CM said, “India Celebrates Twin Mahakumbhs; Faith in Prayagraj and Investment Growth in Kumbhi.” Notably, this investment is the first of its kind in India.
The MoU signed by the government for the country’s first bioplastic plant has now materialized. Balrampur Chini Mills Limited is spearheading the establishment of the first-ever biopolymer plant in the country, which will be set up in Lakhimpur Kheri with an investment of Rs 2,850 crore.
The Chief Minister urged Balrampur Chini Mills Limited to collaborate with ITIs, polytechnics, and local educational institutions to train and employ the youth. He expressed confidence that this plant will be a landmark achievement in promoting environmental conservation, the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and the goal of a self-reliant India.
CM emphasized that this bioplastic plant will contribute towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a self-reliant India and environmental sustainability. He highlighted that the plant will manufacture disposable products such as bottles, plates, cups, and carry bags, which will completely decompose in the soil within three months.
Further, the CM noted that the world is eagerly looking forward to the Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh. He mentioned that between January 13 and February 22, nearly 60 crore devotees have participated in the holy dip at Sangam. “I will be traveling to Gola Gokarnath and then to Prayagraj, but I have already witnessed a ‘Mahakumbh of investment’ right here in Kumbhi,” he commented.
He pointed out that this Rs 2,850 crore plant will be the first integrated unit of its kind in India, generating thousands of employment opportunities while boosting farmers’ incomes. Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to sign an MoU with the plant to facilitate skill development, ensuring that students are directly linked with job opportunities.
Expressing concerns over environmental challenges, CM Yogi shed light on the adverse effects of global warming, such as unseasonal rainfall and droughts. He mentioned that the government is implementing zero-liquid discharge technology to safeguard rivers and canals from pollution. He also disclosed that Uttar Pradesh has received investment proposals amounting to Rs 45 lakh crore, out of which Rs 15 lakh crore has already been invested. Moreover, projects worth Rs 3-5 lakh crore are currently in the pipeline, set to create employment for approximately 7-8 lakh young individuals.
