Srinagar: In a major boost to local sports and youth engagement, the Indian Army has organised a cricket tournament in Kashmir Valley named the Chinar Premier League (CPL) modeled on the lines of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The tournament aims to promote sportsmanship, unity, and peace among youth from different districts of the Valley. Multiple local teams are participating, and matches are being held at various locations with enthusiastic public response.
Officials said the CPL not only provides a platform for young talent but also strengthens the bond between the army and local communities.
The event was attended by top dignitaries including the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 19 Infantry Division, DIG J&K Police North Kashmir Range, DIG BSF, DIG CRPF, and senior officers from the Baramulla district administration, highlighting the scale and importance of the event.
CPL 2025 will feature 64 teams from across the Kashmir Valley, serving as a powerful initiative to channel youth energy into sports and promote unity, talent, and discipline among the region’s aspiring cricketers.
The opening match saw BCC Reds clash with Karnah Tigers a symbolic representation of the league’s grassroots outreach, with the Tigers hailing from the last village of India. Zubair Dar, captain of BCC Reds, hailed the initiative, calling it “Kashmir’s own IPL” and a “golden opportunity for local talent.”
To enhance the experience, multiple HD cameras have been installed and matches will be streamed live on social media platforms, allowing cricket fans across the Valley and beyond to witness the tournament.
Huge crowds of local spectators gathered for the opening game, reflecting strong community support and enthusiasm. The matches will be held at Bipin Rawat Stadium and Showkat Ali College Ground, Khawjabagh.
CPL 2025 stands not just as a cricket tournament but as a beacon of peace and youth empowerment, fostering pride, talent, and unity in the region.
