Srinagar: In a major counter-terrorism breakthrough, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has busted an inter-state and transnational terror module linked with proscribed outfits — Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH). The operation has led to the arrest of seven key operatives and the recovery of a massive cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives during coordinated searches across Jammu and Kashmir and other states.
The case was initiated after multiple Jaish-e-Mohammad posters threatening security forces were found pasted at various locations in Bunpora Nowgam, Srinagar, on October 19. Police registered FIR No. 162/2025 under multiple sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Explosive Substances Act, and Arms Act at Police Station Nowgam and began an extensive investigation.
Initial findings revealed the existence of a sophisticated *white-collar terror network* — involving radicalised professionals and students maintaining contact with handlers in Pakistan and other foreign locations. Officials said the group used encrypted online platforms for indoctrination, coordination, and fund movement. Funds were reportedly raised under the guise of social and charitable causes, exploiting professional and academic networks.
The investigation found that the group was involved in identifying and radicalising individuals, recruiting them into terrorist ranks, raising funds, arranging logistics, and procuring weapons and materials for Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Seven accused have been arrested so far:
- Arif Nisar Dar alias Sahil, resident of Nowgam, Srinagar
- Yasir-ul-Ashraf, resident of Nowgam, Srinagar
- Maqsood Ahmad Dar alias Shahid, resident of Nowgam, Srinagar
- Molvi Irfan Ahmad, Imam of a local mosque, resident of Shopian
- Zameer Ahmad Ahanger alias Mutlasha, resident of Wakura, Ganderbal
- Dr. Muzammil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, resident of Koil, Pulwama
- Dr. Adeel, resident of Wanpora, Kulgam
Police said more individuals connected to the module have been identified and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend them.
Searches were carried out at multiple locations in Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, and Shopian, as well as in *Faridabad (Haryana)* and *Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh)* in collaboration with local police forces.
The operation led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, and explosive materials, including:
- One Chinese Star pistol with ammunition
- One Beretta pistol with ammunition
- One AK-56 rifle with ammunition
- One AK Krinkov rifle with ammunition
- 2,900 kilograms of IED-making material, including explosives, chemicals, electronic circuits, batteries, remote controls, timers, and metal sheets
A detailed financial investigation is underway to trace the flow of funds and linkages with foreign handlers.
Terming it a “major blow” to terror networks operating in and beyond J&K, officials said the operation reflects the *unwavering commitment and professional diligence of J&K Police* in dismantling the terror ecosystem.
“Jammu and Kashmir Police remain steadfast in their resolve to stamp out terrorism in all its forms,” a senior police official said.
